A tribute to Valentino

Another beautiful weekend in the North Georgia mountains and sandwiched between drinking our various Montaluce wines was a 1996 Barolo ‘Vigna d' la Roul’ a wine labeled in memory of one of the great Italian winemakers of this age: Valentino Migliorini. Although Valentino did not die until December 2007 the wine that was aging in the bottle had remained unlabeled allowing for the label to be redesigned following his death. Although Valentino is considered a modernist by Italian winemakers, for those that enjoy "old world" - "new world" comparisons, this wine is the epitome of the old world, earthy with a wonderful farmyard nose. These wines will continue to improve with age and vintages bottled before Valentino's death could prove to be a good investment.

Buona Notte
