Way and Lane are subtly different!

Eventually I will have to give in and wear glasses, contact lenses or have laser surgery, in the meantime I just have to try and stop embarrassing myself.

Yesterday evening Barbara and I attended a 9th Grade Homecoming Photo Party (actually two).

As I entered the house a very nice lady that I did not recognize explained that the host and hostess were tied up and quickly steered me through the house to a deck where the fathers were assembled. As I glanced in passing into the room of students I thought that I recognized one girl who appeared to have aged considerably since I had seen her at the game the night before but I assumed the others must be "dates".

Momentum carried me to the deck where half a dozen dads were assembled, they looked at me a little strangely, exchanged names and the experience became weirder as I not only did not recognize a single one of them (even after persuading my eyes to bring them into focus) but also realized that not a single last name coincided with those of any of our students. Surely they could not all be step-dads? The game was finally blown when Barbara arrived and was immediately asked the name of her child. And so we collected the food and drink we had brought, apologized to the Mom hosting the Holy Innocents Homecoming Party and hightailed it our of Golden Bear territory to the much more welcoming Cougar Preserve.

PS: A HUGE thank you to Mary and Brad for hosting a wonderful community event :-)
