The recent meetings that I have had with our 7th grade students have focused on developing their individual awareness of the manner in which they interact with others and the importance of our recognizing and making amends for our unkind acts and even for those of others. The talks have gone well and it has been wonderful to see so many students apologizing to each other for their mistakes or preemptively extending forgiveness. While this has been a very "practical" exercise it has also reminded all of us that the temporal punishment due to sin has immediate consequences for the sinner. He or she realizes that sin hurts a person’s relationship with God; repentance is part of mending that relationship and of living it out more completely thus mending our earthly relationships can be a critical component of mending our relationship with God.
