Today was a Spirit Day at the lower and upper schools and the afternoon at the upper school finished with an upbeat pep rally.
Our 1st home Varsity football game had its highs and lows and our team struggled against a tough opponent that executed well bringing us to one win and one loss for the season. The most important factor, the players on both teams were safe although with Dr. Proctor and two paramedics on the sidelines we were well equipped for any medical emergency.
High notes of the evening were the family environment in the stands, our wonderful cheerleaders and spirit band AND the news that the Junior High team won their game bringing them to a 2-0 start to the season.
The day and the game were also marked by the return of many alumni from far and near. All in all, a great day to be at HSP.'
"Sport, properly directed, develops character, makes a man courageous, a generous loser, and a gracious victor; it refines the senses, gives intellectual penetration, and steels the will to endurance. It is not merely a physical development then. Sport, rightly understood, is an occupation of the whole man, and while perfecting the body as an instrument of the mind, it also makes the mind itself a more refined instrument for the search and communication of truth and helps man to achieve that end to which all others must be subservient, the service and praise of his Creator."
Pope Pius XII, Sport at the Service of the Spirit, July 29, 1945
